8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training for Security Guards in New York State

Become a Licensed Security Guard

No knowledge or experience is necessary. This security guard training class is the required first step to obtaining your security guard license. Our pre-assignment training for security guards in New York City provides students with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. The fee is $70.
Students are required to have a passing score (70%) on a test given toward the end of the class. After successfully completing the training, students are awarded a Certificate of Completion. This certificate is one of the several documents needed for applying for a security guard license. Learn more about how to become a licensed New York State security guard.
This is a certification course. A security guard license will not be obtained without this step.

8-Hour Annual Security Guard Course Renewal

The eight-hour annual in-service course must be completed each calendar year after completing the 16-hour on-the-job training course. This program is designed to meet current training needs and refresh or update guards in changes in the security field. The fee is $70. Guards must complete this course as a prerequisite for renewal of their registration issued by the NYS Department of State Division of Licensing Services.

16-Hour OJT Security Training Course

The 2-day OJT course is required for New York State security guards and must be completed within 90 days of receiving your license. This program is designed to cover the security guard's specific duties, the nature of the workplace, and the requirements of the security guard company. The course schedule is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the fee is $110.
