Fireguard Prep Classes in Tri-State Area

Fuel Your Knowledge, Extinguish the Risk

Tri-State’s fireguard prep classes in New York City prepare students for the test requirements of the following Fireguard Certificate of Fitness licenses issued by the FDNY:
  • F-01 Fireguard Test - Fireguard for Impairment: Where a required fire protection system is out of service, one or more individuals with an F-01 Fireguard Certificate of Fitness must keep a fire watch in place.
  • F-02 Fireguard Test - Fireguard for Shelters: Fireguards in shelters are required where a sprinkler system is not installed or when a fire protection system is temporarily out of service.
  • F-03 and F-04 Fireguard Test - Fireguard for Public Assembly Safety Personnel (Permanent and Temporary): Holding the Certificate of Fitness license is required for individuals responsible for assisting in maintaining fire safety at an approved place of assembly (PA) or temporary place of assembly (TPA) at a specific location.

F-01 Fireguard Prep Class - $60

The F-01 Fireguard Certificate of Fitness license is required by individuals employed by building owners who are responsible for watches in buildings with temporary malfunctioning fire detection and fire suppression systems. Certification is issued by the FDNY after passing an exam (70% or higher), which consists of 20 multiple-choice questions.
Our three-hour test prep course prepares you by reviewing parts of the NYC Fire Code that are covered on the test, including 401.3, 408, 901, and 906. These sections of the Code define specific duties of fireguards performing duties when mandated fire protection systems are out of service.

Practice Tests
After reviewing the material covered on the test, we go through practice tests issued by the FDNY. These help you prepare for the types of questions on the test so you will be better able to answer all 20 questions within the 30-minute time limit.
When You’re Ready to Take the Exam: Location, License Fee, and Renewal
All exams are given at the FDNY’s Public Certification Unit on the first floor at 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn. A $25 new application fee is required for each certification. Renewals need to be made every three years ($5 fee). Generally, applications are reviewed and processed within one to two days.

F-02 Fireguard Prep Class - $60

Individuals employed by building owners responsible for watches in buildings with temporary malfunctioning fire detection and fire suppression systems are required to have the F-02 Fireguard Certificate of Fitness license. To obtain this certification, one must pass an exam consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions with a minimum score of 70%. The FDNY issues the certificate upon successful completion of the exam.
Our three-hour test preparation course helps you review the NYC Fire Code sections covered on the test, such as 401.3, 408, 901, and 906. These particular sections of the code are responsible for defining the specific duties of fireguards who are required to perform their duties when mandated fire protection systems are out of service.

F-03 and F-04 Fireguard Certificate of Fitness licenses are required by individuals with fire safety responsibilities at permanent and temporary places of public assembly, including stadiums, theaters, and outdoor arenas. Certification is issued by the FDNY after passing an exam (70% or higher), which consists of 20 multiple-choice questions.
Our three-hour test preparation course will help you prepare for the NYC Fire Code test. We will review the essential parts of the Code covered on the test, including 401.3, 408, 901, and 906. These sections of the Code set out the specific roles and responsibilities of fireguards when required fire safety systems are unavailable.

F-80 Fireguard Prep Class

All homeless shelters are required to have an individual who holds a Certificate of Fitness license for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters (F-80). This certificate is also needed in any building or occupancy requiring a one-way voice communication system, regardless of occupancy classification. It is also needed for shelters operated or occupied by more than 15 persons for more than 30 days. These include emergency shelters.
This Certificate of Fitness is valid only at a specific location and for the specific person to whom it is issued.

Online Training and Computer-Based Exams
Students must successfully pass the online training course as the first part to obtain an FDNY Certificate of Fitness. Afterward, they will be required to go to the FDNY headquarters at 9 Metrotech Center in Brooklyn to complete the computer-based exams.
